Privacy Policy
HyHover is built on a simple promise: your data stays yours. This policy explains exactly what we do — and don't — collect.
At a Glance — The Short Version
Who We Are
HyHover is a free browser extension developed and maintained by Hywiz Technologies, a software development organization. HyHover provides 10 professional developer tools — DOM Inspector, Color Picker, SEO Auditor, Performance Analyzer, Site Stack Detector, Assets Extractor, Screen Capture, Page Rulers, Debug Tools, and Responsive Tester — all free, all within a single browser extension.
This Privacy Policy applies to:
- The HyHover browser extension (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave)
- The HyHover website at hyhover.hywiz.com
- Any communications you initiate with us (support, feature requests)
Information the Extension Collects
Zero data collection
The HyHover browser extension collects no personal data whatsoever. Every one of the 10 developer tools operates entirely within your browser tab using local execution. No data — including page content, URLs, DOM structures, color values, performance metrics, or any other information — is ever sent to our servers or any third party.
Specifically, HyHover does not:
- Read, store, or transmit the content of the web pages you visit
- Collect your browsing history, URLs, or site-specific data
- Track which tools you use, how often, or on which domains
- Send analytics events, crash reports, or usage telemetry
- Access or exfiltrate any credentials, cookies, or sensitive user data
- Make any outbound network requests from within the extension
The extension uses browser localStorage solely to remember your UI preferences (such as theme preference — light or dark mode). This data never leaves your device.
Information the Website Collects
When you visit the HyHover website (hyhover.hywiz.com), standard web server logs may be generated by our hosting infrastructure. These logs typically contain:
- Your IP address and approximate geographic region
- Browser type and version (User-Agent string)
- Timestamp and pages visited on this domain
- Referring URL (if you arrived from a link)
We do not deploy any analytics scripts (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Hotjar, etc.), advertising trackers, or cookie-consent walls on this website. No marketing or remarketing pixels are present.
Contact Form & Email Communications
If you submit a message through our contact or feature request form, we collect:
- Your name — to address you personally in our reply
- Your email address — to reply to your inquiry
- Your message content — the subject and body of your inquiry
- Message type — whether it is a feature request or support/contact inquiry
This information is used exclusively to respond to your message. We do not add you to any marketing list, share your details with third parties, or use your contact information for any purpose other than addressing your specific inquiry.
Email communications are retained only as long as necessary to provide a response and maintain a reasonable record of our communications. You may request deletion of your contact data at any time by emailing us at hello@hyhover.hywiz.com.
Browser Extension Permissions
HyHover requests certain browser permissions to deliver its functionality. Here is a transparent breakdown of each permission and why it is needed:
- activeTab — Required to inject tool UI and read page structure for the DOM Inspector, SEO Auditor, and other tools. Access is granted only for the currently active tab and only when you explicitly activate a tool.
- scripting — Allows tools to analyze and overlay visual elements on the current page (accessibility outlines, color picker eyedropper, page rulers). No scripts are injected that exfiltrate data.
- storage — Used exclusively to persist your local preferences (theme, tool states) in browser localStorage. Nothing is synced to remote storage.
- tabs — Needed by the Responsive Tester to open device preview contexts. No tab history or URLs are recorded.
HyHover does not request permissions beyond those strictly necessary for its stated functionality. We operate on the principle of minimal privilege.
Data Storage & Retention
Extension data: All data generated by the extension (such as your theme preference) is stored locally in your browser's storage and is never transmitted anywhere. You can clear this at any time through your browser settings or by uninstalling the extension.
Contact form submissions: Email records are retained for a reasonable period to manage correspondence and improve the product based on user feedback. We do not maintain a formal CRM database of user contact information. Records older than 24 months may be purged as part of routine data hygiene.
Web server logs: Standard server access logs are retained for up to 90 days for security and operational purposes, after which they are automatically deleted.
Third-Party Services
The HyHover extension itself makes zero outbound network requests and integrates with no third-party services. It is completely self-contained.
The HyHover website uses the following third-party services:
- Google Fonts — The Inter typeface is loaded from Google's CDN. This involves a DNS lookup and font file request to Google's servers. Google's Privacy Policy applies to this request.
- Web hosting provider — Our hosting infrastructure may collect access logs as described in Section 3.
We do not use advertising networks, social media tracking pixels, A/B testing platforms, session replay tools, or any behavioral analytics services on this website.
Cookies
The HyHover website does not use cookies. We do not set any first-party cookies or permit third-party advertising cookies.
Your theme preference (light or dark mode) is stored in your browser's localStorage — not a cookie — and is local to your browser only.
Because we use no cookies, no cookie consent banner is required under applicable regulations.
Children's Privacy
HyHover is a developer tool intended for users of all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction).
Since the extension collects no personal data at all, and the website only processes contact form submissions that require intentional user input, we do not believe any special risk to children exists. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us in error, please contact us immediately at hello@hyhover.hywiz.com and we will delete the information promptly.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data under applicable laws such as the GDPR (EU), CCPA (California), or other regional privacy regulations. These rights may include:
- Right of Access — Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
- Right to Rectification — Request correction of inaccurate personal data
- Right to Erasure — Request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
- Right to Object — Object to processing of your personal data
- Right to Data Portability — Request a machine-readable copy of your data
Given that the extension collects no personal data and the only personal data we process is what you voluntarily submit via the contact form, fulfilling these requests is straightforward. To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@hyhover.hywiz.com. We will respond within 30 days.
Data Security
We take the security of any data in our care seriously. Measures we employ include:
- HTTPS encryption for all website traffic
- Spam and honeypot filtering on the contact form to prevent injection attacks
- Input sanitization on all form fields
- Minimal data collection architecture — we cannot lose what we do not store
No transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a breach affecting your personal data, we will notify affected parties as required by applicable law.
Open Source & Transparency
HyHover is committed to transparency. The extension's source code is available for review, which allows independent verification of our privacy claims. Any technically proficient user can inspect exactly what the extension does and does not do.
We do not obfuscate, minify-to-hide, or otherwise conceal the behavior of our extension code. Our privacy stance is not just a policy statement — it is verifiable in the code itself.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Effective date" at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
For material changes that expand the scope of data collection or how data is used, we will take reasonable steps to notify users, such as posting a prominent notice on the website or announcing the change in a new extension version release.
Your continued use of HyHover after any changes to this policy constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
